New heating system
Nelson’s Riverside Pool is getting a brand new heating system, which will ensure users can enjoy the pool at a pleasant temperature every day. Work to install the system will mean the pool is closed from 28 December 2020 until February 2021.
The current heater is starting to age and needs to be replaced with a modern, more reliable system. This will have the added benefit of making the pool more energy efficient. The work has been timed to ensure an alternative is available with Nayland Pool being open over the summer months.
Community and Recreation Committee chair Tim Skinner says another bonus is that the effect of breakdowns on the pool’s operations will be minimised.
“The new heating system will mean pool users will enjoy a more reliable heating system with reduced energy costs. It’s a great upgrade for this important city centre facility.”
The Riverside Pool fitness centre and changing areas will still be open over this time, and members can use Nayland Pool for no extra cost.
Hire groups have been contacted regarding their bookings with the option of moving to Nayland Pool where possible.
Nelsonians who are interested in booking swimming lessons or attending fitness classes can do so at Nayland, which also offers holiday and after school programmes for children. The outdoor pool is also available for birthday parties.
