Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Flag Raised at Parnell Baths
We were honoured to start the week off with a hui with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei to commemorate our ongoing relationship that we have built together over a number of years.
In a moving ceremony, Ngāti Whātua had their official flag raised over the grounds at Parnell Baths for the first time ever. The flag, now visible from the Judges Bay Road entrance, is not only symbolic of the collaborative efforts that CLM and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei have made in the past, but is a nod towards the opportunity we have to develop greater mahi in the future. It also stands to acknowledge Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei as the kaitiaki of the whenua on which our facility is built, therefore reminding all those who visit the grounds of its significance to the iwi.
As 2022 comes to an end, we are constantly reflecting on ways that we can improve upon our facility management. In working with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, we hope to create a better future for Parnell Baths, and all those involved with the caretaking of the whenua.
